‘MARKET KITCHEN & BAR’ AND ‘RELISH’ TO BRING FRESH NEW DINING TO GUILDFORD
Dining in Guildford will take on a new dimension when the Radisson Edwardian Guildford Hotel opens on 29 September. The four star deluxe hotel will feature two restaurants and a destination bar designed by the globally renowned Rabih Hage, which are anticipated to make the hotel one of the town’s most stylish meeting places.
Market Kitchen & Bar
Taking its name from Guildford’s market town history, Market Kitchen & Bar will be an all-day Mediterranean café offering relaxed local bistro-dining from brunch and lunch turning into a cosmopolitan evening destination. Quality is at the heart of Market Kitchen & Bar making it a meeting place for locals with a sophistication that will appeal to a broad audience.
During the day this unpretentious eaterie will offer fabulous juices, fantastic coffee and great teas with a family-friendly atmosphere. Inspired by healthy, fresh and simple Mediterranean cooking, the menu at Market Kitchen & Bar will focus on creativity and the use of prime ingredients. Many of the dishes will be designed for sharing with bar snacks preceding dishes from the town’s first Josper (pronounced “hosper”) grill - a powerful, charcoal-fired indoor BBQ which seals in flavour and moisture - accompanied by fresh salads. Josper cooking is the latest trend set to spark a culinary revolution with Market Kitchen & Bar leading the way in the Guildford locality.
Central to the design of Market Kitchen & Bar will be a feature display table showcasing delectable produce including salads, fresh fruit, pastries and cakes, rustic breads, cheese and olives, depending on the time of day. A variety of olive oils will augment the taste experience.
The bar is set to become a key destination in itself and will offer innovative cocktails incorporating southern European ingredients, from Valencia oranges to lemons from the Amalfi coast, whilst beers and an eclectic wine list will complement the East meets West food offering. Music is central to this culinary concept and come the evening when the lights go down an urban vibe will infiltrate and guests will be treated to the latest global music. Market Kitchen & Bar will also be one of few destinations in Guildford offering al fresco dining on its extensive terrace, lending a continental atmosphere.
Quirky initiatives will include a cocktail book inviting guests to share their favourite drinks thereby ensuring a constantly evolving list and visitors will be encouraged to record their top recipes, the best of which may well be selected by the chef and added to the menu.
Smart destination dining meets the Great British Brasserie, Relish is set to ignite a love affair with Britain’s beloved local and traditional dishes. Offering all-day brasserie cuisine, Relish will add a contemporary twist to classics including the great British breakfast, afternoon tea and Sunday lunch. Expect to see favourites such as Welsh rarebit, fish cakes, pot roast, pies and seasonal game along with proper puddings.
A daily fixed menu will include timeless specials ranging from Shepherd’s Pie, gammon sliced from the joint, steak frites, and fish and chips on Friday. Bar food to accompany fine wines or a locally brewed beer might include pork pies, mini sausages or Scotch eggs. Locally sourced foods will feature heavily on the menu highlighting the variety of ingredients that can be found in and around Surrey.
Treasured the world over, Britain’s famous roast lunch will be a reason in itself to visit Relish on Sundays. Here the very best local produce will be offered with all the trimmings served in the stylish, Rabih Hage-designed surroundings.
Another highlight will be afternoon tea which is inspired by the counties of England – Derbyshire, Lancashire and Devonshire. Traditional cakes will be served along with regional favourites such as Ashover Moorland tart, Eccles and Chorley cakes and for puritans, scones with clotted cream and jam.
