Our gorgeous beds: an inside look at the best bed you will ever sleep in 2

Posted in Behind the scenes, Responsible Business

There are loads of different reasons to visit a hotel but when choosing where to stay, there’s one thing that everyone can agree on: the bed has to be amazing. This week we’ve had a good poke around inside our beds and can now reveal why they are simply the best!

In conjunction with senior management at Radisson Blu Edwardian, VERTUE designed an exclusive version of their mattress that is not only comfortable but also made from sustainable materials. Our beds have:

- ››2,000 pocket spring count for optimum durability

- Springs made from 90% recycled steel

- Unique ‘Memory Fibre’ layer for added comfort

- Outer ticking made from 100% Egyptian cotton

›- 100% natural wool and silk quilt

- Hypo-allergenic

- One-sided, non-turn design

- ›Micro quilted top surface for ease of cleaning

What makes a good mattress?

A mattress should be firm enough to align the sleeper’s spine correctly; if the mattress is too soft, it will not support the neck or back and will cause soreness and sleeplessness. Similarly a mattress that is too hard will create pressure discomfort at points of contact with the body. It has to be just the perfect firmness! Our VERTUE mattresses integrate a unique combination of natural materials to achieve the holy grail of flexible support combined with a sumptuous body-contoured surface to provide supreme comfort.

It’s all about the layers

There are 4 layers to all of our mattresses:

The Support Layer The support layer in the mattress core provides the strength to keep the sleeping body correctly supported and the quality of this layer dictates the durability of the mattress

The Comfort Layer Fluffiness, softness, ventilation and moisture regulation are the most important properties of comfort layers, which are placed right underneath the ticking of the mattress.

The Insulating Layer The insulator needs to be strong and have some ‘mass’ to distribute pressure and to protect the softer comfort layers and filling materials from the springs.

The Filling Layer Filling materials need to be resilient and they need to ventilate. Resilience gives a comfortable feel, supporting the spine during sleep and ensuring that the mattress returns to its original shape during the day. The ventilation systems in a VERTUE mattress are designed to move moisture through the layers and out through the bottom of the mattress.
