Charity sporting events in Manchester 0

Posted in Radisson Blu Edwardian, Manchester, Responsible Business

Back on Sunday 15th May 2011 Manchester welcomed 37,000 runners and many more visitors to its 9th Bupa Great Manchester 2011 10km run.  With summer on the way, this is a great time to get training for a charity run. We hear from our Manchester hotel on what happened at the BUPA Great Manchester Run and have a look at sporting events coming up that you can take part in.

The Bupa Great Manchester Run was founded by former Olympic 10,000m bronze medallist and BBC sports commentator Brendan Foster. It takes in all the top sights of Manchester such as Old Trafford Stadium, home to Manchester United, and The Imperial War Museum over at Salford Quays.

The run finished outside the Radisson Edwardian, Manchester’s only 5 star Hotel on Peter Street, where the exhausted competitors and their supporters piled into Opus One Bar for a refreshing celebratory drink.  Bupa Great Manchester Run has become increasingly popular with celebrity runners.  The likes of Shayne Ward and Manchester music legend Peter Hook took part in this year’s race in aid of The Christie.

The Radisson Edwardian Manchester Hotel had stars of their own taking part in the race.  Nine of their staff members took to the street for the Great Manchester Run.  It took them an average of 1hr 21 minutes to complete the race, raising a total of £1756 for in aid of Hospitality Action.  Hospitality Action is a trade charity that helps people in the hospitality industry who have fallen on hard times.

Georgina Melling, Guest Services Team Leader, added, “The overall experience of the day was very up lifting and self motivating.  It made me look around and see good in so many people.  The race has made me look at myself and others in a new light and I hope to continue to be more involved with fund raising events for the rest of my life”.

Some of The Radisson Edwardian Manchester’s Sienna Spa and Health Club members also took part in the 10K run.  Sienna is an ideal Club to train in for such an event.  There is a full gym with free weights section, a 12m swimming pool, with spa pool, steam room and sauna.  Sienna also offers spa treatments should a full body massage be in order after all that exercise!
